Discord

Hiya! It's been a long while since I've updated this project, but an update is almost around the corner! I've been doing quite a lot of work improving every aspect of the game and reworking the less desired features. I'm posting about my progress on other sites such as YouTube and Blusky, but I think it'd be cool to start posting updates here.

A New Level Editor?

One of the first things that I started out with was completely remaking my level editor, so it'll be a lot easier for me to design rooms and customize dungeons for the game. I'm streamlining the content creation process as much as possible because I want to make this game something I continuously push updates to frequently every week. It does not take me a long time to make new content or improve what's already there, because everything is already so perfectly tailored to how I work! I want to release the game in Early Access very soon, and then rapidly push updates to the game until it is complete. I believe that would be a very fair release model for the game and also make the most sense for what I want to build.

Adding Special Attacks!

One of the main things coming in the next update gameplay wise is the addition of what I like to call Spirit Slashes! Every weapon now has a special attack that they can perform which should add a lot more character to them and make it even more exciting to find new weapons! I'm making a unique Spirit Slash for every weapon :), and with that I'm making a LOT more items! There's so many new ones planned for the Strange Beginnings Update. With this change I've removed active items, as there's no reason to have them anymore. There will still be held items though!

With this change I've removed active items, as there's no reason to have them anymore. There will still be held items still. I think it's very important to create this type of incentive with weapons in a Roguelike, as it gives something else to stay hyped for as you're exploring, new weapons are always going to be exciting to find. Below you can find some videos related to the subject!

Visual Upgrades

The game is also getting a massive visual overhaul. I've been experimenting a lot with new palette shaders and cleaning up effects in general with the use of intentionally designed shaders, particles, and greatly improved pixel art in some cases! Every area is getting so much more to them! The new visual style is much more inline with how I imagined the game should look, so I think I'm pretty satisfied with it. BUT, I'm going to keep pushing what I can do with shaders just cause they're so fun to mess around with and give me new capabilities all of the time.

There are some great guides that I've been following for things such as the new slash effects and the water, I'm starting to realize just how much can be done with shaders and the game is going to be looking so much different once I'm done. It really feels like I just unlocked a whole new plane of possibilities. I'll make sure not to overuse them though or create effects that'd be distracting from the gameplay, as I know that was one of the main complaints that some people had with the game.

YOUR Ideas!

Have any ideas for what can be added to the game? Well I'm all ears, I'll add just about anything if I think it's going to enhance the playing experience, within reason of course. I'm especially interested in item and enemy ideas currently. As I'm fleshing out those aspects of the game more.

Closing Thoughts

That's all for now, you can check me out on Blusky too for a few extra posts.  The Strange Beginnings Update will release pretty soon, it's not that far off and it's going to include quite a bit of new content. But until then, here are some more works you might find a little interesting to look at:

Soundtrack Cover Art that I drew for Terralora, we'll be able to upload the OST soon!
