GMTK 2023 Results

The Results

The rating distribution isn't public for you guys, so I wanted to share it here if you were curious!

But with that, the jam has finally concluded. I ranked #26 overall from 6,835 submissions, with a #17 ranking in Enjoyment!

Comparisons

Overall, I'm very thrilled with my placement. I expected to lose a lot of creativity points since my main focus wasn't coming up with an insanely novel idea. However, as always, my main goal with game development is to create really fun and tight experiences. For this jam in particular I wanted to experiment a lot more with general game feel and flow and I can definitely see the results of that now.

Bullet Happy got a lot more time in the oven compared to Iris's Scrappy Rumble, my submission to LD52. This was mostly thanks to having an easier-to-implement concept and more development experiences to program core systems much more quickly.

Final Thoughts

Watching people play the game live on stream and give their thoughts on it was quite entertaining! The feedback was very useful and I've already gotten several ideas for what I can mess around with in future and current projects. You'll definitely see more from me soon in relation to that! Thanks to everyone who played Bullet Happy, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I may honestly return to this game later to update it with new ideas, but we'll see about that.

That aside, this was a very fun jam to participate in and the community was quite welcoming and hilarious as always. I hope to see many of you for next year's jam! I also hope that you all were satisfied with the jam, and don't have hard feelings over the final rankings. This shouldn't be treated as a competition, I think. I'll see you all later :)
